Guest Post!

17 Jan

This is a guest post by my eight year old daughter, Cheeky Teacake. This is one of those proud dad situations, and I’ve put this up here to encourage her to write her own posts. If this ain’t your thang, the rest of the blog is over there.

Cheeky Teacake’s class were doing a project on Lord Shaftesbury, and she was given an assigment to write a letter as if she were Shaftesbury writing to Queen Victoria to raise the plight of working children. Here’s what she came up with. She’s eight.

Dear Queen Victoria,

I am writing to express how disgusted I am about the way the children in your kingdom are treated. Children are out there, working long hours, in dangerous conditions, working in places like factorys and doing jobs like mudlarking and collecting the pure with no way to escape and I want to stop it!

I have recently visited a coal mine and I was absolutely astounded by the conditions and the number of children working in this dangerous place. They were working against dangers like getting crushed by the coal trucks but are still forced to do the work. If they stop their job they will have no money to pay for food and other stuff for their living. Also they’ve had no chance of an education so they don’t know a life other than the one that they are living now.

I have also visited a factory and children are working there as well! They are crawling under machines, risking losing fingers or even being killed! How would you like it if your children were working in these conditions?

In conclusion I would like you to support any new laws I put before Parliament for I would appreciate you bringing the number of deaths, diseases and injuries down in your country. Just imagine, if you were a little girl, working in one of these conditions. How would you like it? Do you see what I mean?! Children are getting killed by the minute so it is inportent that we reduse the number of deaths and help some children to suvive. Please help some children to suvive!

Yours Sincerely,

Lord Shaftesbury

I’m going to be looking over my shoulder, as I think she’s going to be giving me a run for my money blogging.
